King Abdulaziz University, represented by its Faculty of Architecture and Planning, has
designed the architectural and visual identity for the 10th Citrus Festival in Al-Hareeq
Governorate. The festival, inaugurated by His Excellency the Governor of Al-Hareeq, Mr.
Mohammed bin Nasser Al-Jarbou, began on Wednesday and will continue for ten days.

The concept developed collaboratively by faculty members and students, presents an
innovative architectural vision centered on sustainability. The design utilizes locally sourced
materials such as gravel and reclaimed wood, alongside a natural color palette of olive
green, gray, and blue. Advanced lighting techniques, including indirect cove lighting, were
used to highlight architectural elements and walkways, resulting in a cost-effective yet
authentic entrance that blends modern design with the local environment.

The master plan, created in collaboration with the university’s Creatives Center, features a
strategic spatial layout that includes shaded walkways, gathering plazas, and interactive play
areas for children made from sand and tree trunks. Dedicated pavilions were also designed
for local farmers and small businesses, reflecting the quality and value of national
agricultural products.

This architectural initiative supports Saudi Vision 2030, particularly its goals for agritourism
development. Running through January 16, the festival offers a family-oriented, culturally
immersive experience that bridges architectural innovation and agricultural heritage,
reinforcing Al-Hareeq’s role as a growing economic and tourism destination.

The festival welcomes visitors daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., serving as a national platform
that highlights both agricultural excellence and creative design, shaped by the hands of
Saudi talents from King Abdulaziz University’s Faculty of Architecture and Planning.
